Project Description

Joy Meyer’s artistic practice includes abstract painting and video. Meyer’s work creates connections between the history of painting and theories of knowledge to explore the metaphysics of love. Joy Meyer holds an MFA in Studio Arts from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Previously, she graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Virginia, with Distinction with a BA in Studio Art and a BA Art History. At Virginia, she attended an advanced watercolor workshop and spent a semester with the medium which began her life long practice with water mediums. Meyer is an internationally exhibited artist having shown at the Kamloops Art Gallery, in British Columbia and at Universitet i Oslo, Norway. With work travelling to additional international venues including Vilnius Academy of Arts, Lithuania and Ideas Block LT, Lithuania. Regionally, her work has been at The Ackland Art Museum, CAM, The Carrack, and LUMP projects in North Carolina. In Virginia, at The Garage, The Bridge PAI, WTVF/Radio IQ Gallery, New City Arts, Art Works Gallery, The IX Building, and Ruffin Gallery at University of Virginia. Her work has also appeared at The Carnegie Visual and Performing Arts Center in Covington, Kentucky, Red Ink Studios in San Francisco, and at LACDA in Los Angeles. Meyer’s work has appeared in several publications including, The Third Coast, The Virginia Literary Review, 3.7, Summmer, and in the Mildred Pierce zine. Recently her work was published by Routledge Press as a book cover. Meyer is also a founding member of the all-female, artist collective, Subverbal Collective.
