Call for Art; Down to Earth!
Submissions due Feb 14th!

Sponsored by NC Solar Now and hosted by the Orange County Office of Sustainability and the ArtsCenter in Carrboro, Down to Earth will be an exhibition taking place in March and April 2025.
We’re inviting artists to submit their artwork for an exhibition that frames how humanity can and is impacting their environment. We are focused on climate change, sustainability, and environmental stewardship through art.
We are excited to see how artists can explore the different mediums in innovative and creative ways. This call is open to all forms of art and artists, though local Orange County artists will be given preference!
Artists are invited to submit works of art made from recycled, natural, or sustainable materials and/or art themed around the environment, earth, climate change, sustainability and the impact of humanity on environment.

The exhibition will take place in The ArtsCenter’s Theater Gallery

March 7th – April 24th, 2025
For the special event on April 26th, various conservation groups will be present to talk about the important work that they are doing in the County and beyond. There will also be electric vehicles and e-bikes on view for people to learn more about sustainable transportation options. And a table from NC Solar Now!
The submissions will be reviewed by a committee made up of staff from the ArtsCenter, NC Solar Now and the Orange County Office of Sustainability. The submissions will be evaluated on the basis of their creativity, quality, and originality and adherence to the theme.
Prizes
NC Solar Now will be awarding a $500 prize to the artist of their choice and the ArtsCenter will be awarding a 6-week exhibition to take place in 2026 to an artist of their choice! Prizes to be awarded on April 26th, 2025 during our special earth day event.
Submission Criteria and Guidelines:
Submissions are due by Feb 14th, 2025, at 11:59 pm!
Chosen artists will be notified by February 28th. Pieces will be due at the ArtsCenter by March 5th.
For all work sold, the ArtsCenter will retain a 30% commission. The ArtsCenter will collect all monies from the sale of artwork, including tax, through April 25th. Artists will receive payment by May 31.
In order to apply please send a short description, artist bio and up to 5 images to tacgallery@artscenterlive.org with the subject Down to Earth Submission- Artist Name.
Criteria for submission:
- Artists may submit up to five works for the exhibit. A photo of each submitted work with title, size, medium, year, edition, and price (or NFS) is required.
- All mediums are allowed
- Two and three-dimensional works allowed
- There are no size limitations
- Works intended for outside display will be considered
- Works on paper and canvases less than 1″ thick must be properly framed and wired or equipped with hangers.
- The ArtsCenter assume no responsibility for theft, damage or liability. The artist is responsible for insurance of artwork. The ArtsCenter will make their best effort to assure the security of the artwork in the Gallery.
- Artists agree to allow the ArtsCenter use of images of artwork for promotional purposes (credit will be given).
- Artists agree to uphold the ArtsCenter exhibition contract.
