This course will cover the basics of the genre. Whether you’re a writer of fiction/poetry/plays or just now entering the world of writing, this course is accessible and will answer questions like: What is creative non-fiction? What makes it different from journalism? Is memoir covered under creative non-fiction? What is and is not allowed in writing creative non-fiction? What elements make it “creative” or are borrowed from writing fiction? How do I research my chosen topic and conduct interviews? Each student will a chance to read examples of creative non-fiction and to write a paper on the topic of their choosing by the end of the course. Writing the paper includes gaining practice in interviewing subjects.
