Otterness – Saturdays, Feb 6th – Feb 27th, 9am – 12pm (In Person)
This four-session course will cover the basics of handbuilding with clay. In the first class, students will learn how to use different handbuilding techniques to create several functional objects. The second and third classes will cover finishing techniques, adding handles, and decorations to complete work for bisque firing. In the final class, we will glaze our bisqued pieces. Students are encouraged to research objects they would like to make in class and at home and bring in images to the first class for guidance and inspiration. The class will cover coil and pinch pot techniques as well as utilizing the studio’s slab roller and various clay draping molds.
Levels: Beginner but Intermediates welcome!
– Students are highly encouraged to purchase and bring a set of clay working tools for personal use. Simple 8 piece sets can be purchased online or at local craft/hobby stores. Students will also need to bring plastic grocery bags with which to cover their work. If students wish to work on pieces at home (highly encouraged) boxes are helpful for the transfer of work from the studio to home and back.
Tuition includes the cost of glaze materials, firing fees, and a bag of clay.
