Age Range: 3rd-6th grade
Together we will learn about different techniques to draw people. We will work on sketches and self portraits to understand proportions, expression and the uniqueness of our own face.
Week One: Drawing the Figure
We will start with a step by step basic structure of a person using common shapes.
Monday: Drawing a full body figure. Using different drawing techniques to draw a human figure (Scribbling, Crosshatching, Hatching). How are these techniques useful when drawing a figure?
Tuesday: Gesture drawings and how to turn them into contour drawings. Gesture drawing game.
Wednesday: Drawing specific features. Step by step drawings (Ears, Mouth, nose, eyes) Using reference images to practice drawing people.
Thursday: The break down of the human face. Learning about proportions of the face. Looking at our own faces in a mirror and comparing these proportions. Drawing our own face.
Materials: Ruler, Paper, Pencil, Colored pencils, Pen (Any pen will be fine, but black/blue ink is preferred), Mirror, Printed self portrait on copy paper, Erasers, Magazines with people to draw in them, Optional: Sharpies.
This class is conducted online! A computer with audio, video, and internet functionality is required. Student gives permission for The ArtsCenter and for instructor to use their image and comments in class recordings for promotional non-commercial purposes. Refunds and exchanges are not offered for online classes.
