Otterness – Saturdays, Mar 6 – Mar 27, 9am-12pm (In Person)
This four-class session will cover the basics of hand building larger serving dishes. In the first class students will learn how to use different handbuilding techniques to create larger bowls, trays, and platters. The next classes will cover finishing techniques, adding a solid base, and decorations to complete work for bisque firing. In the final class we will glaze our bisqued pieces. Class size will be capped at 3 students to ensure social distancing protocol can be followed. Students are encouraged to research specific dishes they would like to make in class and at home and bring in images to the first class for guidance and inspiration. The class will cover coil and pinch pot techniques as well as utilizing the studio’s slab roller and various clay draping molds.
Levels: Beginner – Intermediate
– Students are highly encouraged to purchase and bring a set of clay working tools for personal use. Simple 8 piece sets can be purchased online or at local craft/hobby stores. Students will also need to bring plastic grocery bags with which to cover their work. If students wish to work on pieces at home (highly encouraged) boxes are helpful for the transfer of work from the studio to home and back.
