Krawiec – Tuesdays, Mar 9th – Apr 13th, 7pm-9pm (Online)

Sometimes you need to say something in story form.  Sometimes a poem works best.  Sometimes a monologue.  Sometimes an essay, reflection, observation, aphorism, film scene, snippet of biography or something you can’t quite define.

Why not  use all of them in one piece of writing?

Increasingly writers are pushing boundaries, integrating elements of non-fiction, poetry, prose, theatrical pieces, essays, meditations, etc into one creative work of expressive writing.

In this writing-intensive course each student will discover a theme, subject, idea, relationship, or issue they wish to explore through multiple types of writing.  The aim will be for each student to produce one piece of work that incorporates various elements into a coherent written work that feels complete and satisfying.

Richard Krawiec has published 5 novels, a story collection, 2 poetry collections, feature articles, creative essays and several plays.  His work has been reviewed in the NY Times, LA Times, and featured in Publisher’s Weekly Recommended List. His 3 most recent novels published in France have been highlighted at conferences and readings across France, and received excellent reviews from Rolling Stone, and L’Obs (the French equivalent of Newsweek), among others. His stories have been shortlisted for Best American Short Stories. He has received grants from the NEA, and the NC Arts Council (twice). Richard Krawiec designed and taught the Beginning, Intermediate Fiction Writing courses online for UNC-Chapel Hill for over 2 decades.   He won the Excellence in Teaching Award for his work.
