Continuing Memoir Writing

This class will take a close look at how to create memoir and essays about our lived experiences that convey truth, emotion, and drama. In this class, you will practice the art of deep reading to better understand what tools memoirists use to successfully tell their stories and do writing exercises to practice using those tools yourself. We’ll look at specific aspects of craft, including structure, beginnings and endings, character development, and reconstructing memory. You will also have the opportunity to share work in a supportive environment and learn how to offer constructive feedback to help others improve their work as well as hone your eye for examining your own. This class is ideal for those who have some experience reading and writing memoir and personal narrative and are looking for a more detailed and structured understanding of the form.
