Keul – Saturdays, May 15 – June 19, 9am-12pm (Online)
A painting course in which students will develop their own paintings alongside the instructor (virtually), working from direct observation. A variety of motifs will be explored, including still life and landscape.
The instructor will demonstrate technique and give critiques live during the online class as well as privately, via email, after the class is over, to those students who are interested. Students will also be given a slideshow at the beginning of each class of examples of artists’ work, from historical and contemporary sources, which thematic ties to the subject being painted that day. The instructor will demonstrate in oil paints primarily but students are welcome to use any media they choose, including watercolors, guache, charcoal/graphite, acrylics, tempera, pastels, or oil paints.
Materials List: Students should have quality brand paints in oil, watercolor, or acrylic. Williamsburg, Gamblin, Danial Smith, Old Holland, Schmincke, Winsor & Newton are all great options. The following basic pallette is recommended, as a minimum:
Cadmium Yellow Light
Cadmium Red Light
In addition to paints, students should have the following supplies on hand: linseed oil, damar varnish, turpenoid, a palette and palette cup, a variety of bristle brushes, and paper towels.
This class is conducted online! A computer with audio, video, and internet functionality is required. Student gives permission for The ArtsCenter and for instructor to use their image and comments in class recordings for promotional non-commercial purposes. Refunds and exchanges are not offered for online classes.
