Class description: Art has always been taught as a craft, but there is a broad spectrum of ways of thinking about and doing art. I will be teaching art not as a craft but as a distinct way of thinking. We will learn how to use one’s eyes to see as an artist and to think about and make each mark. This process is a fractal, repeated over and over as the composition evolves, and will be the focus of this class. Portrait painting is a foundational tool for learning to see and paint with color from nature, not a subjective, stylized interpretation, but an interpretation of what is actually there. No prior experience will be needed. The class will be taught with demonstrations, explanations and discussions, and working one on one with students as they paint from the live model. The goal of the class will not be to create finished art but to develop an understanding of the art process.

All ArtSchool Classes are for 15 and up unless otherwise specified.

ArtSchool Class Enrollment Policy

Classes that do not meet the minimum enrollment within 3 business days of their start will be cancelled, and any purchased tuition will be fully refunded.

Exchange and Cancellation Policy

You may request a full refund up to 5 business days prior to the start date of your course. You may request a transfer of your enrollment up to 5 business days prior to the start date of your course. We do not process requested refunds or transfers within 5 business days of the start of a class, nor after the class has begun.
