Reading Methods to Link Literacy and the Arts

Literature as an art form gains power when connected with other expressive mediums such as music, visual arts, and drama. The participants of this class will explore new possibilities for connections beginning by examining newly published picture books that they will use as a focus for discussions. In our analyses we will consider topics such as books that work for teaching multiple art forms and books lend themselves to activities that link literacy and other arts.  Together we will produce a collaborative resource of  useful books and activities.

This 10-hour professional development session will earn teachers 1 CEU credit in Reading Methods. This course takes place at Susie Wilde’s home studio in Chapel Hill.
