Class description: In this class, students will learn to combine ceramics with drawing and pattern-making through a variety of surface design techniques. Drawing exercises as well as ceramic techniques will be taught, and students can apply their surface design to either wheel-thrown or handbuilt forms. The following techniques will be covered: sgraffito, mishima, carving, slip transfer, stenciling, piercing, and glaze application. Emphasis will be on layering techniques to achieve depth of design. Please note that this is not a handbuilding or wheelthrowing class — students should be comfortable constructing basic forms in clay; beginners will work on ceramic slab drawings. It’s recommended that students have some experience working with clay, but beginners are welcome too.

All ArtSchool Classes are for 15 and up unless otherwise specified.

ArtSchool Class Enrollment Policy

Classes that do not meet the minimum enrollment within 3 business days of their start will be cancelled, and any purchased tuition will be fully refunded.

Exchange and Cancellation Policy

You may request a full refund up to 5 business days prior to the start date of your course. You may request a transfer of your enrollment up to 5 business days prior to the start date of your course. We do not process requested refunds or transfers within 5 business days of the start of a class, nor after the class has begun.
