Let’s make art and tamales!
Please join us at The ArtsCenter on Wednesday, March 13th, 2019 from 6 – 8:30pm for the second session of Truth + Tamales, a community engaged art project and social practice that strives to be a change agent for a more inclusive culture in Chapel Hill, Carrboro and Orange County. Through traditional tamale making and contemporary art making, Truth + Tamales is on a mission to strengthen relationships, build community and bridge cultural gaps through human connection.
This bilingual (Spanish/ English) project will meet during the 2018-19 school year to create collaborative artwork for exhibition in our community in June 2019. Each session of Truth + Tamales includes art making, tamale making (led by community tamaleras), sharing truths and socializing.
Sessions are free and open to the adult public (childcare is provided at no charge for children Age 3 and older) but registration is required. Click here
Project partners Mary Carter Taub (artist), Barbie Garayua Tudryn (counselor) and José Nambo
(teacher) will lead the Truth + Tamales sessions with support from local organizations including The ArtsCenter, FPG Bilingüe and El Centro Hispano. This project is supported by the N.C. Arts Council, a division of the Department of Cultural Resources.
