In this course you will learn the process of visual analysis that helps artists and critics describe and evaluate artwork. We will discuss how the elements and principles of design apply to ceramic work and how to employ them in ways that appeal to your own particular artistic taste. This critical analysis will help you understand why you are thrilled by one piece and displeased with another. For the first half of the class we will focus on analyzing form and function. For the second half we will focus on surface decoration.
