DeSerres – Saturday, November 28th, 10am-11:30am

In this class, we’ll learn to paint several types of simple watercolor flowers and herbs including roses, sunflowers, goldenrod, anemones, echinacea, mint, and more. This class is recommended for beginners. I recommend this class as part of my watercolor landscape series.

I recommend the following materials for class, but you don’t have to order these exact materials. I recommend pan watercolors instead of tube watercolors because they are a little easier to manage for beginners.

1. Pencil and eraser
2. Watercolor Kit
3. Watercolor Paper
4. 2 Water dishes (with water)
5. Paper or cloth towels for drying your brushes
6. Salt
7. Rubbing Alcohol or hand sanitizer
8. Cotton ball and/or cotton swab
9. Crayons (Pack that includes white)
10. Watercolor brush set

About instructor Lauren deSerres: I use imagery of nature and animals to create stories addressing societal and environmental issues. In my work, I explore how these issues intersect with the human narrative. I use bright, saturated colors made with layers of acrylic paint, pastel, collage, and ink.

Using images of animals and medicinal plants, I weave a story of awakening and rebirth, reflective of my own experience as a woman and an artist in the modern world. My technique consists of many processes and layers, and I believe this helps the viewer to look closely at the work, gradually unveiling hidden nuances and details, both in technique and in the stories I create.

Our world is rapidly changing, and it is only through real self- reflection, discovery and a sense of open-mindedness that we will be able to come together to save it.
