EASTER IN ALEXANDRIA

by Jessica Abrams

A woman in her fifties living in a bungalow in Hollywood is finally able to move forward in her life following the unexpected severing of a dysfunctional relationship with a neighbor’s ornery cat.

NORA, an actress turned clearance coordinator in her 50’s, lives in a Hollywood bungalow where she and an ornery neighborhood cat named FRANK are in a highly dysfunctional relationship and her life is basically going nowhere. Her beloved dog Jasper died just a year ago and she hasn’t found a way to move on. When Frank injures his back during a bad dream, Nora calls the vet against the wishes of his mistress, a 20-something hipster named LILA. Unlike Nora, Lila chaffs under the intrusive quarters of the bungalow complex and interprets Nora’s caretaking as nothing more than meddling and judgment. Under the guise of a marriage proposal but what is eventually revealed to be unadulterated stalking, Lila takes Frank and leaves Los Angeles for the greener pastures of Corvallis, Oregon. And even though Nora has begun a romance with her neighbor and self-proclaimed working actor BREVARD, she is nonetheless torn apart by the loss of her feline friend. It’s a break-up, even if she doesn’t quite understand it in those terms. His leaving forces her not only to deal with her loss, but also – with the help of the new building manager-slash-life coach, MARLENE – to focus on something even more important: the future, and to embrace it.
