Welcome to ArtSchool: Arts Education For All

Welcome to Artschool

Welcome to the ArtSchool, the founding program of our 50-year-old ArtsCenter! We believe learning, creating, and exploring your creative voice is a process that never stops, so we're proud to offer opportunities for people of all backgrounds to nurture their artistic side. Whether you are a serious artist looking to keep your skills sharp, or a hobbyist looking for a creative community connection, we have something for you.

We offer classes on a quarterly basis (Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall) in a range of different mediums including: Drawing, painting, mixed media, dance, arts-based wellness, ceramics, fiber arts, digital arts, makerspace technologies, stained glass, theatre, photography, writing, and more!

All classes are for ages 15 and up, unless otherwise indicated in the course description.

Classes are typically available on our website at least 2 months prior to the start of the quarter. The best way to stay up to date and ensure you get a spot in the class you want is to subscribe to our newsletter and follow us on social media: @artscenterlive.

Please reach out to Rachel Nunn at rpnunn@artscenterlive.org or 984-500-3747 with any questions or for help registering.

We look forward to seeing you in the studio!

registration policies

How to Register

You can register in one of three ways:

 1. Register online on the ArtSchool tab of our website: www.artscenterlive.org

2. Call our main line at 919-929-2787 during our business hours to register over the phone with a credit or debit card

 3. Come visit us during business hours and our staff will be happy to help you register. We can accept card, cash, or checks in person.

Many classes fill quickly, so we recommend registering in advance to reserve your spot. Classes with low enrollment will be canceled 1-3 days prior to the start of the class. In these cases we will process a full refund and notify enrolled students via email. Please note that checks should be made payable to The ArtsCenter. A $25 service charge is applied to returned checks.

Some classes have supply lists. However, we encourage students to confirm the minimum enrollment of their class before purchasing materials. We will typically notify enrolled students about the status of a class 3 days prior to the start of the class. The ArtsCenter cannot be held responsible for materials purchased for a canceled class.

If you wish to cancel your registration, you must notify ArtSchool staff at artschool@artscenterlive.org  5 business days prior to the start date to receive a full refund. Supplies

Some classes have supply lists and/or supply fees. Any necessary supplies will be listed on your class invoice when you register, as well as in the “Notes” section of the class listing online. You may purchase supplies from any art supply retailer. We do not currently sell any art supplies at the ArtsCenter. If a supply fee is listed, please pay this to the instructor directly on the first day of class.

If you are looking to support local, we recommend shopping with our local partner, Crazy Alan's Art Emporium, who regularly stock items needed for our classes! They are located in Chapel Hill at 1129 Weaver Dairy Rd. Their phone number is (919) 929-8595.

If buying supplies is not accessible for you, reach out to Rachel to schedule a time to look through our limited stock of donated art supplies: rpnunn@artscenterlive.org.

*Note* Supplies and supply fees are NOT covered by scholarships.

ArtSchool Stories:
Voices from Our Community

Through our ArtSchool program we aim to make arts education accessible to everyone while facilitating community connections. Our fantastic instructors – many of whom have taught with the ArtsCenter for decades – are experts in their medium and have a passion for sharing their knowledge with others. Below are a few testimonials from satisfied students over the years.

Intro to Wheelthrowing/ Ceramics with Jason Abide

“Jason was a great instructor! He provided support and guidance to everyone in our class regardless of their skill level. I appreciated his patience and encouragement. Additionally, I enjoyed having access to studio time to continue to build on the skills I learned in class each week, as well as, to meet other ceramic students at the ArtsCenter.”

Continuing watercolor with Luna Lee Ray

“The Arts Center is awesome and such an important part of my life. It is so much more than nurturing creativity, classes and learning, it's community. Thanks!”

Introduction to Oil Painting with Renzo Ortega

"Best thing about this course was the teacher, Renzo Ortega. Passionate about his subject, tailored instruction to each student's level and style, emphasized classical fundamentals, and did not baby the students. Second thing I liked was my fellow students, who were a diverse mix with a lot of different artistic styles."
