About CASH/DYLAN/CASH
Stick around home on this August 23/24 weekend and join David Burney and his guests—Rod Abernethy and Rebecca Newton—for two special nights celebrating the music of Johnny Cash, his friend Bob Dylan and daughter Rosanne. Given the abundance of the Cash/Dylan/Cash legendary recordings, set lists will vary each night as this trio of area favorites share their take on the works of three legendary singer/songwriters.
David Burney, lead singer of “peerless” Johnny Cash tribute band Johnny Folsom 4, brings his hit one-man show—“Hello, I’m Johnny Cash”—back to the ArtsCenter where it debuted in early 2020 just before the pandemic brought everything to a stop. And this time around he’s also joined by Rod Abernethy and Rebecca Newton, two NC favorites, to help him share music and stories of Johnny Cash’s friend Bob Dylan and his daughter Roseanne Cash in this updated 90-minute show. Burney will present the life and legend of the Man in Black through stories and, of course, songs the whole world knows and loves. If you’re a real fan of the Man in Black you won’t want to miss this show.

About David Burney
A North Carolina favorite and leader of Johnny Folsom 4, a former Vice President of Brand Communications and Design at Red Hat, and Founder, CEO, and Partner at New Kind, David has about forty years of experience in the creative industry including design, marketing and communications.
No Depression magazine says: “for those of us unable to have seen Cash perform during his life, this is more than a treat. It’s a time machine.”
Robert Nash, Executive Director of the Cultural Center of Cape Cod says “I loved every minute of it. It was so believable I thought I was listening to Johnny Cash.”
Rebecca Newton, former CEO of Carolina Theatre of Durham says: “From the time he takes the first step on the stage to the last word and gesture of his show, David commands the stage and honors Johnny Cash with all the respect Mr. Cash deserves.”
And Jackie Cash, Johnny Cash’s niece, says “Oh my Lord! He’s channeling J.R.”
