Artist Statement and Background Information for Trudy Thomson
“I am drawn to the rhythms and patterns found in nature, its random features, sometimes repetitive, sometimes sequential, or undulating. My tapestry explores cross currents of color, the pulsing of fibers, and shifts in hue. I explore traditional and contemporary fabric structures, including tapestries that use interlocked, soumak and Egyptian weaves.
Trudy Thomson is on the Orange County Artists Guild board and serves as Liaison for Studio Tour. She is a member of Durham Art Guild, Triangle Visual Artists, Artspace in Raleigh, and on display at NC Crafts Gallery.

Aesthetic principles of asymmetry, simplicity and wabi-sabi, fused with whimsical deconstruction in design and process are joyful and identifiable statements within each woven piece. Each piece begins with a single hand-warped fiber sequence of 100’s of sustainable and often hand-dyed textural threads meticulously threaded beamed on a multiple harness floor loom.
Dawn Hummer is on the Orange County Artist Guild board and serves as Liaison for Internal Affairs (membership). She is a member of Pleiades Art Guild, Triangle Weavers Guild, American Craft Council, Durham Art Guild, Handweavers Guild of America, National Basketry Association, owner of Saori Song Weaving Studio in Chapel Hill, NC.
