Nancy Smith is an exhibiting mixed media artist living in Carrboro, NC. Her work has been included in numerous area juried shows and she is a member of the Orange County Artists Guild. She studied with mixed media artists Luna Lee Ray and Mary Todd Beam.
Nancy Smith’s combined use of line, texture, and color in multiple transparent layers captivates the viewer with delightful discoveries that engage the senses.
“I always approach a painting by starting with an under-painting. Most often this includes collaging papers related to the subject matter on first followed by layers of transparent paint. If I don’t use papers, I use a minimum of three textured layers of paint. Lastly, I paint the subject matter and integrate the background. I find inspiration from nature, people around me, found objects, and books I’m reading.“
Nancy has generously donated an original painting from her Mug Shot series to The ArtsCenter’s Silent Auction, on display throughout the month of June in the Nicholson Gallery.
