Art From The Ground Up: A Community Partnership for Coffee Art Creation

A Community Partnership for Coffee Art Creation and support of the Farmer Direct Relationship Program*.

From September 13th – October 7th, 2024 works of art created with coffee will be on display

Artists from Orange County were invited to submit their ideas for art projects made with coffee. Whole bean, ground coffee, the choice is up to the artist, and we encouraged them to create in innovative ways.

Included artists include Laurel Petri, Rachel Manconi, Abeille & Keigo, Lindsey Palumbo, Scott Morrow, Addie Low, and Anika Devereux.

Then, check out the exhibition at Open Eye Cafe at 101 S Greensboro St., Carrboro, NC 27510 from October 11th – December 15th, 2024.

All submission fees collected will be utilized to support the farmer day care programs in Honduras and/or Guatemala that Carrboro Coffee Roasters supports through their Farmer Direct Relationship Program*.

The ArtsCenter {501(c)(3)} will donate 10% of sales to the Farmer Direct Relationship Program*. Open Eye Café, as a conduit for artists, does not take commission, but asks for a 10% donation to the Farmer Direct Relationship Program*.

Laurel Petri is an artist based in Chapel Hill, NC. They blend surrealism and impressionism with acrylic on Canvas. They create narratives that celebrate human experience through a variety of mediums.

Anika Devereux is a mosaic artist in Chapel Hill, NC. She utilizes upcycled materials to transform something into a brand-new piece through mosaics.

Addie Low is a senior at Appalachian State University working toward a BFA in Studio Art with a concentration in Ceramics. She has spent the past 3 years in Boone learning to hand-build, fire kilns, mix glazes etc. She loves the community that comes with being a ceramic artist; is always pushed to learn, seek out new opportunities, and challenge herself and her art. Painting is another one of her passions, and she is always enjoying finding different ways to combine both her clay and painting styles.

Lindsey Palumbo is an artist and freelance graphic designer residing in Chapel Hill. She loves to experiment with watercolor painting and film photography. She is currently attending The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a graduate student. She loves coffee, art and the Carrboro community!

Rachel Manconi is a photographer, fiber artist and mixed media artist based out of Durham, NC. She enjoys being whimsically creative while living her best spooky life.

Spyridon Scott Morrow, born in Memphis TN in 1975, is a certified Christian icon-painter, art teacher and founder of the Comunidad de Arte (CdA) artist community in Villa Palmeras, San Juan. Spyridon’s works are exhibited at various churches in the US and Puerto Rico including Trujillo Alto, Parroquia San Francisco de Asis in Calle San Francisco OSJ, and Santa Teresita church on Calle Loiza.

Abeille and Keigo, are an artistic duo who place emphasis on the natural world and see it as the ultimate expression of beauty. For them, art is a meditation, a reconnection with their roots and communication of the beyond.

Tyler Dennis is an often coffee-stained maker from Houston, TX now living in Durham. He wanted to incorporate used coffee filters from the ArtsCenter’s coffee machine in an art piece. He hopes it will bean inspiration to others to make their own in the Makerspace!
