Hello AfterSchool Arts Immersion families! February may be the shortest month on the calendar, but there is a lot happening at AAI.
On Wednesday, February 2nd, AAI welcomed Rissi Palmer, who work-shopped with students to create songs while also teaching them the components of a song. You can read more about her visit in this post.
So far this month, we have welcomed a new resident artist, Vera Reed, who guided the kids through “Abstract Colors, Shapes and Emotions”. Together, they listened to different music styles and created art projects with mixed media that reflected how the music made them feel.
During our minicamp on Tuesday, February 15th, resident artists Mirna Ferreira and Ivan Liotchev led the students through mixed media projects, utilizing paint, cardboard, found materials, and more. Students that worked with Ivan Liotchev helped to create an abstract portrait of Finnish author Sabira Ståhlberg. The artist, Ivan, had each age group create a different face that he melded together afterwards to create a composite portrait of Sabira. All three are pictured below; the final portrait is published on Sabira’s website.
Our next artist, Zora Medor, is guiding students through historical events and notable figures using performance, movement, and student-directed scenes! Stay tuned for pictures and video in the SharePoint folder – if you have trouble accessing the folder, please contact Hannah at hmckinney@artscenterlive.org.
