Altered Patterns Women and Textiles Art Exhibtion

February 28, 2024

Upcoming in the Theater Gallery From March 8th – April 8th

Curated by Caroline Haller

Throughout history, textiles have been associated with women and their role in the domestic sphere. These materials were primarily used by women to embellish and beautify their homes and were considered an acceptable hobby for them. However, in recent times, there has been a growing recognition of textile-based works as a legitimate form of art. The exhibition called Altered Patterns showcases the work of five female artists from North Carolina who are pushing the boundaries of textile and fiber-based techniques. Their visionary approaches both pay homage to the history and significance of these methods, while also challenging the perceptions of these artistic mediums.

The five artists are Susan Finer, Tonya Solley Thornton, Marguerite Jay Gignoux, Ida Couch, and Debbie Secan. Each of these fabulous artists combine elements of traditional textile and fiber craft with innovative approaches.
